Thank you for your interest in our educational initiative entitled, “Improving IBD Knowledge and Health Literacy Among Recent Non-English Fluent Immigrants to Canada” being led by Dr. Laura Targownik and her colleagues at Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto, Ontario.
The goal of the current research study is to collect information on the unique experiences of individuals who were born outside of Canada, are living with IBD, including Crohn’s Disease or Ulcerative Colitis, and are primarily fluent in Arabic, Farsi, Filipino/Tagalog, Hindi, Mandarin, Punjabi, and/or Spanish.
Through participation in a virtual focus group on a secure online platform (Zoom), we will ask you to speak about your experiences around being diagnosed with IBD, making decisions around medications for your IBD, and about your diet and your mental health as it relates to IBD. We will audio record our conversations so that we may later use them to develop educational materials in Arabic, Farsi, Filipino/Tagalog, Hindi, Mandarin, Punjabi, and Spanish that will be made available to people in your community. These educational materials will be among the first of their kind.
We expect this focus group to last approximately 2.5 hours. No information that can personally identify you will be collected. You may refuse to answer any questions and if need be, withdraw from the group at any time.
A token of appreciation will be provided to those who decide to participate in this educational initiative.
