SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 30, 2024

STARTS AT 6:00 PM SHARP

THEME –  "Winter Wonderland.”

The District of Invermere is organizing the 2024 Light Up Event & Light Up Santa Claus Parade again this year. Light Up will be taking place on Saturday November 30th. The 2024 Light Up theme is “ Winter Wonderland.” We invite you to participate in the parade by providing a float, marchers, riders or whatever your business, club or group wishes to enter! There is no charge to do so!

Parade will assemble for organization on the road west of Pothole Park (9th Avenue/5A Ave). Floats will start the line up at 5:00pm -facing north. The float order will be determined by the order of arrival. The parade will start from Pothole Park at 6:00pm and travel through the main street of Invermere (7th St) to the Eddie Mountain Memorial Arena on (13th St) where the parade will conclude.  The Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony will be taking place in the Cenotaph Park after the Parade. 

SAFETY

  •  Driver must be legally licensed to operate the vehicle pulling the float and have clear vision forward and to the sides.
  •  In the event of emergency, the driver and all people on the float must be able to get off the float immediately.
  •  To avoid falls from floats, railings or hand bars must be provided for all riders who are standing. All children must be seated and be secured in their seats. An Adult MUST accompany children on the float.
  •  NO OPEN FLAMES like candles or sparklers.
  • If you have hand outs (candy, toys) accompanying your float NO THROWING, have walkers move to the people and handout items. This is extremely important that children do not run out into the street!

PROCEDURES

  •  All parade entries should follow the theme selected - "Winter Wonderland.”
  • All entries shall be decorated with lighted materials. If the float is drawn by a truck or tractor, the cab must be decorated, as well. A single vehicle must be decorated.
  • There shall be only ONE SANTA CLAUS, and he will ride on the Santa Claus float at the end of the parade. He will join in the Christmas Tree Lightening Ceremony in Cenotaph Park following the parade.
  • All floats are encouraged to have music playing!

 LINE-UP

  • The parade marshals will tell you when it is time to move up for the start of the parade.
  • It is important for the driver of the float to know where the float is to go following the parade so there are no delays at the top of town.

EMERGENCY

  • If an emergency occurs we will be moving to the right hand side of the road and you are to stop. The parade will not proceed until an all clear is given.

All registered Parade floats will be judged to win a trophy that they get to keep in their business or organization for the entire year! Judges will come around and judge the floats prior to the parade start. Awards will be presented at the Light Up Ceremony in the Cenotaph Park in the following categories:

  • Corporate
  • Non-Profit
  • Small Business

All floats will be judged out of 50 points on the following categories:

Best Theme: How creatively and effectively the entry communicates the theme of the parade- " Winter Wonderland” Includes enthusiastic participants in seasonal, on-theme costumes. 10 points

Most Original: The entry showcases originality in design, features and construction materials.

5 points

Best Visual Effects: Visually appealing with effective use of lighting and other elements.

20 points

Best Audio Effects: Makes use of sound or music that enhances the effect of the entry.

15 points
