Section 1 – Introduction
We need to build more homes in Canada, and we need to build them by the millions. The good news is – we can. We can do this by embracing new ways of building quality homes that are both cost-effective and labour efficient.
This is where the Housing Design Catalogue comes in. As part of Canada’s Housing Plan, the federal government announced that it is developing an Industrial Strategy for Homebuilding in Canada to improve the capacity and productivity of the residential construction sector and ultimately deliver new homes, faster. The Housing Design Catalogue is a key feature of this strategy, and it will provide standardized designs to simplify approvals for new housing and accelerate the construction process.
We are working with experts to develop tailored designs for the Housing Design Catalogue, but we can’t stop there. We want to incorporate the best plans and practices that exist in the country today, to scale‑up and showcase the very best Canada is already offering. That’s why we are asking for your help.
We invite companies in the prefabricated housing industry – including those building modular, panelized, and 3D printed houses – to submit their designs so that they may be included in Canada’s Housing Design Catalogue, an initiative to help Canada build its way out of the housing crisis.
We are also asking companies to share information on current products, capabilities, and technologies in the industry – as well as the role of prefabricated and other innovative homebuilding techniques in speeding up the pace of construction.
