Barrie Transportation Master Plan - Phase 2B Survey

The City of Barrie is updating its Transportation Master Plan (TMP) — a long-term strategy that will guide how people and goods move around the city to 2051 and beyond.

Barrie is expected to approximately double in population, from about 150,000 people today to about 298,000 people by 2051. This level of growth will create many more daily trips across the city and will place additional pressure on the entire transportation system.

The TMP considers all forms of transportation, including driving, walking, cycling, transit, goods movement, and the connections between them. It also considers what improvements will be needed across the transportation network to support Barrie’s growth over the coming decades.

Through earlier phases of the study, the City developed and reviewed different future transportation scenarios. These scenarios helped compare different ways Barrie could invest in transportation infrastructure and services as the city grows.

Based on technical analysis, public and stakeholder input, and the evaluation of different network options, Scenario 4 – Enhanced Sustainable Mobility has been identified as the Preferred Transportation Network for further consideration.

This survey asks for your feedback on the Preferred Transportation Network and the process used to identify it.

In this phase of the TMP, we are asking for your input on:

• The Preferred Transportation Network, also referred to as Scenario 4;
• The evaluation process used to compare the transportation scenarios;
• Barrie’s future road, transit, cycling, and pedestrian networks; and
• Supporting policies and initiatives that will help implement the plan.

Your feedback will help refine the Transportation Master Plan before it is finalized and will help shape how Barrie grows and moves for generations to come.
