RDOS - 2026 Wildfire Evacuation Focus Groups

Introduction

The Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen (RDOS), with support from MNP, is inviting residents affected by the 2026 wildfire evacuations to participate in an in-person community focus group.

Our intention is to learn from residents’ experiences during the 2026 wildfire evacuations by understanding what worked well, what helped people during the evacuation, and what lessons we should carry forward. By capturing these experiences, we can preserve effective practices and identify practical insights to help inform future evacuation planning and preparedness.

The focus groups will be facilitated in English and will provide an opportunity to discuss:

  • Examples of what worked well and what can be carried forward for future evacuations
  • Facilitated discussion on methods of public notification that were effective
  • Feedback on evacuation routes that worked well
  • Grab-and-go bags and household preparedness
  • Resident and neighbour cooperation, including checking in on and supporting others
  • How information and updates were received and shared within the community

Dates: December 4 and 5, 2026
Location: The George Ryga Arts and Cultural Centre (Upstairs), 9525 Wharton St, Summerland, BC V0H 1Z0
